Community Programmes
We run a wide range of community programmes designed to get more people active, particularly those who face barriers to participation. From walking sports for older adults to inclusive cycling groups and community run clubs, there is something for everyone.
We work closely with local NHS trusts, schools, and community organisations to deliver targeted interventions that improve physical and mental health outcomes across Bolton.
Joining Horwich Leisure Centre has been one of the best decisions I've made for my health and wellbeing. Right from the start, the team has been encouraging, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping me reach my goals. The facilities are top-notch – with modern equipment, a great variety of classes, and staff who are always friendly and willing to assist.
"My daughter has been at Bolton since the start of her tennis journey and with RPDC over the last 2 years She has grown and improved both as an individual and as a tennis player working with the academy coaches and fellow players. She has been extremely happy and the healthy environment within the Bolton RPDC has immensely contributed to hers and other players success over the years. I am sure there will be more success stories for players joining the centre and the hard work done by the RPDC coaching staff will pay off year by year contributing to this success."
"We are really grateful for the rpdc program. Venue is great, coaches are amazing and nice to be part of a supportive community. We are so pleased to see our son make great improvements within tennis and grow in confidence. Many thanks for your support."
"My son loves training at the Bolton RPDC. Sabrina and Simon go over and above for their players and are always there to advise and support both parents and players on their tennis journey. Mental wellbeing and the love of tennis is a priority for me, as a parent. I really feel that the Bolton RPDC has got that balance of intensity and fun just right. My son always wants to be there, he hates missing a session and that speaks for itself."
"My child (12yrs old) is on their 2nd year of the RPDC programme. There has been real progress in their game since starting and has had two successful years in terms of results at tournaments, GB selections and sponsorships. The coaching style, squad and S&C environments have helped to develop his confidence and social skills too, which has meant that some great relationships have been formed with both coaches and players alike."
"Our daughter is coming to the end of her RPDC journey. During this time she has developed massively as a player and an individual. The level of coaching she has received has been fantastic. It has felt like the coaches have been fully invested in our child and they have been on this journey with her. Sabrina, Howard and their amazing team have a great understanding of what each individual player needs to achieve the best they can. Players are constantly being encouraged to live tennis, to be fully involved in their training and to give and get out 100% at each training session. There is a philosophy that great training not only helps you as an individual but the rest of the squad, in turn helping you get better. The RCDP helps the children grow and understand what it takes to be a great tennis player. It teaches them to Own It. Bolton Arena is like a second home for our child and we believe we wouldn’t find better anywhere else. She is lucky to train at Bolton Arena."
We are absolutely thrilled with the record number of players who have signed up to take part in this year’s English Nationals. Bolton Arena is the perfect venue to host our event and we can’t wait to showcase the best of our sport to the North West. We have some top players from a number of different age groups competing on court, so we can’t wait to get started. We’re hoping the English Nationals will inspire more people to try the sport and we’d love to encourage anyone to come down and watch if they’ve never seen pickleball played before - it’s perfect for all ages and abilities.
We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve chosen Bolton Hospice as our local charity for the next 12 months. The wonderful Bolton Community hold this incredible organisation close to their hearts, and collaborating with Bolton Hospice on fundraising efforts will be sure to make a positive impact.
Scan has been part of the local community for over 25 years and we’ve always believed in giving something back. We are extremely proud to support Bolton Arena and their Business Football League
When asked to form a deeper partnership with the Arena we were happy to support a local public facility in this way. The Arena is something we should all be proud of as a town, with the outdoor track, internationally recognised tennis program & football programs offered in an exceptional environment available to all residents. As well as this, the team at the Arena are committed to providing a top-class experience to their customers – both things I have experienced first-hand. Therefore, we are happy to support the continued success of Bolton Arena in this way.’
"Steve coached me when I first started out playing tennis aged 8 or 9 up until I was 11 or 12, winning the U12 Nationals under his guidance! He always brought great energy and enthusiasm to my lessons and taught me how to use my ‘lefty crafts’ at an early age, which has been a great staple for my career. Ten years later I’m still very much in touch with Steve. He has always been incredibly supportive throughout my journey in tennis and offered guidance in recent years. A fantastic coach for all ages! I genuinely believe that my early years working with Steve at Bolton Arena set me on a great path for my career. He taught me great foundations and player identity early on, which has given me so much clarity in my game to date."
“I trained at Bolton with Steve as my individual coach between the ages of 10-13. In that time, I made some big strides as a player. Working with Steve, I learnt a lot about being disciplined and he taught me the values of becoming a top player. Steve expected extremely ambitious standards from myself and it’s all for the right reasons. He had a good balance of being 'tough’ while, at the same time, making the game enjoyable. He created a fantastic team environment at Bolton, which made everyone want to compete 100% all the time and get the best out of themselves. I’ve been coached by some of the world's top coaches and Steve played a huge role in my career.”
"I’ve known Steve for many years now and have seen him help many youngsters become fantastic players. For me, being a player who is more towards the end of their career, he’s found such a great balance between giving advice and coaching me but also understanding that my needs are different from that of a junior player. That adaptability is what makes a good coach, great. We communicate a lot about my game and discuss both of our opinions on it, making it much easier to highlight and work on areas to improve. I’ve really enjoyed my time with him so far, the energy and positivity he brings to each practice, and I can’t wait for more work together in the future!"
'We are immensely proud to continue our support of Urban Outreach Bolton, especially at a time like Easter, when many families feel the strain of financial pressure to provide something for their children, when they may not be in a position to."
"This is The Bolton News first Careers Fair on Thursday 29th June. We want to help local people find local work and support businesses on the difficult process of finding the right people. From speaking to many businesses in our town there are lots of local jobs including full time, part time, apprentices and volunteers, there really is no need to work outside Bolton, it’s all on your doorstep. We are proud to announce that Diamond North West is our partner for the Careers Fair. We can reach out to candidates in every field from hospitality to industry, retail to leisure, health and social care to education and training and every sector in between."
"Players of all ages will be able to take advantage of the state-of-the-art pitches with shock pad synthetic rubber, and the latest LED floodlight technology to ensure the best quality of games all year round".
It was fantastic to see so many people coming together and enjoying themselves and trying out something new. We plan to increase numbers next year and grow the amazing community spirit.
We are delighted to partner with Active Bolton. The company is steeped in history within the Bolton community, and it's great to be associated with such a fantastic sporting facility.
I was absolutely in a mess, I couldn’t enjoy any outdoor activities, sport, or the gym due to an old injury. I had NHS physio in the past, but it didn’t really address the problem. When I saw the T4 team it was different straight away, I was guided through all my exercises and advised insoles would prevent the knee problem happening in future. I feel fitter than ever!
We’re so pleased to have T4 on board, the whole personality of the clinic fits perfectly with our brand and we are sure that it will be beneficial for members, visitors and staff alike.
When I started T4 I could see that a lot of patients were coming through with issues that were just caused by footwear or daily life, and the wear and tear of getting older. I personally care a lot about improving quality of life and my motto is your health is your wealth. That’s why we offer a range of different services designed to reduce medication usage, help individuals avoid surgery, and focus on the root cause of the problem. Managing pain is one thing but it’s vital to find out where it’s coming from and stop it, so people can remain active.
